KISS MY NAUMAN IN HELSKINKI
Our video installation Kiss
Curated by Kati Kivinen & Arja Miller, this thematic exhibition that explores the relationship between contemporary art and popular music, examining how music, or the experience of music, appears in the actions of the artist or the music lover, the fan. Music appears in the works either as a thematic source of inspiration or as a soundtrack that supports or challenges the visual material. Some of the featured artists use the aesthetic of music videos as a starting point for their own work, others explore their themes by employing a style that resembles music videos, or makes ironic or analytical references to the genre.
A central theme in the exhibition is the enjoyment and pleasure of music, its affective dimension, which can appear in the works as a personal or a collective experience. The exhibition includes many video works, but also paintings, photographs and installations. There are works by both Finnish and international artists, as well as many works from Kiasma’s collections.
