Shooting Live Artists formed part of ART SHEFFIELD 03, the first city-wide contemporary art event of its scale to take place in Sheffield. The Site Gallery premiered the Shooting Live Artists commissions - an exciting crossover area between performance, digital media and installation. The commissions included Iain and Jane's File under Sacred Music.

under Sacred Music
This was the first screening and exhibition of File under Sacred Music (20 mins DVD with sound). For File under Sacred Music Iain and Jane took as their starting point a 20 minute long bootlegged video documenting a seminal 1978 performance by The Cramps at Napa Mental Institute in California. They then staged an re-enactment of this performance at the ICA in London on 3rd March 2003 in order to film it. Iain and Jane then edited their film in an attempt to meticulously re-create the content, spirit and degraded, dated aesthetic of the original video.
The Shooting Live Artists exhibition also included work by: Daniel Gosling, Leslie Hill and Helen Paris, Third Angel, Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard, Ronald Fraser-Munroe, Completely Naked, Furtherfield. Shooting Live Artists was commissioned by the BBC and the Arts Council of England, with co-funding from Studio of the North and support from b.tv and the Culture Company.
"A thrilling and puzzling conflation
of impersonation and reality."
