For Fucked up lover Iain and Jane invited 12 friends to compile audio cassettes for their lovers. Each participant was then asked to talk, in front of a video camera, about their tape, the music on it and the person it was made for. The result is a intimate, confessional and entertaining tightly edited 30 minute black and white single channel video. Iain and Jane cut from one talking head to the next and back again, collaging narratives, associations, statements and truths. Participants in the film: Juliet Baptiste, Andy Hunt, Simon Ballard, Mark Rutherford, Dan Howard-Birt, Sarah Hughes, Sarah Fortes, Finn Lawrence, Marie-Lise Sheppard, Jane Pollard, Rob Stearn, Lucy Ment, Dan Kidner and Iain Forsyth. Fucked up lover is the first video work in Iain and Jane's series Precious Little. Each of these works collages footage from a set of interviews with young people talking about a tape they've made, the music they've chosen and what it means to them. The series attempts to chart a map over time and place of youth's universal understanding of music's ability within the context of memory and romance to transcend cliché and begin to act as an extra-linguistic communicative bond.
